How long is the treatment course for cystitis?
Cystitis is most commonly seen in female patients, especially middle-aged and young women, and it is somewhat related to sexual activity. Acute cystitis is the most common type, as the female urethra is very close to both the vagina and the anus, making it easily contaminated, which can lead to acute cystitis. Symptoms of acute cystitis include frequent urination, urgency, painful urination, and in severe cases, distressing urge incontinence. It feels like a burning sensation in the urethra during urination, and there can also be visible blood in the urine. The treatment for acute cystitis mainly involves antibiotics; oral levofloxacin or cephalosporin antibiotics are usually prescribed for three days. If the effect is not very obvious after three days, treatment can be extended to seven days, then stop the medication and recheck the routine urine analysis after three days. It is also advised to drink more water, urinate frequently, eat less spicy and irritating food, and apply heat when symptoms of frequent urination and urgency are severe.
