Whether chronic prostatitis is serious depends on the type of prostatitis and its impact on the patient. Chronic bacterial prostatitis is relatively serious; if not treated promptly, it could lead to acute bacterial prostatitis and might even be accompanied by prostate abscesses. Some patients may also experience a decline in sexual function, as well as irritability, insomnia, depression, and other negative emotions. Therefore, chronic bacterial prostatitis should be taken seriously. Sensitive antibiotics should be used for regular treatment to avoid complications. On the other hand, nonbacterial prostatitis is relatively less serious.
